Sergio Silva Castañeda

Head of the Economic Development and Growth Unit | Ministry of Economy of Mexico

PhD in Latin American Economic History from Harvard University and Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE), awarded the Luis Chávez Orozco Prize for his thesis on economic history. He is an expert in economic development, studies on authoritarianism, and population policies in Mexico and Spain. From 2018 to 2021, he served as the Head of the Global Economic Intelligence Unit at the Secretariat of Economy, where he led innovative initiatives to promote Mexican exports and attract foreign direct investment, being responsible for developing data platforms such as DataMéxico and ExportaMX. He has worked as a Researcher and Technical Advisor at the Bank of Mexico and currently serves as the Head of the Economic Promotion and Growth Unit with the team of Secretary Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon at the Secretariat of Economy. He is the author of multiple academic publications in national and international journals, focusing on topics of foreign policy, economic history, and development.
